cock:
controls the amount of water supplied to a
gravity-operated toilet tank. The ball cock is metered
by a plastic or copper float. When the toilet is
flushed, the float drops & opens the valve ,
allowing water to enter the tank &/or bowl. When
the tank fills the the float rises & shuts the
valve closed. Also referred to as water filling
valve.
