cleaning garbage disposers

Garbage disposers clean themselves if used properly. Do not put lye or other chemical drain pipe cleaners into the garbage disposer.

Periodically & always after disposing of fibrous food waste, purge the drain line by filling the sink w/ two or three inches of cold water. Turn on the garbage disposer & allow this water to run through w/ no waste added.

Before going away from home for several days, make sure all waste have been flushed out of the garbage disposer to avoid creating odors. If odors should occur through an oversight, they can be removed by running orange, lemon peels or ice cubes through the garbage disposer.
