washlet 101

What is a Washlet?

A Washlet is a toilet seat with warm water, bidet style washing. It is a replacement toilet seat, and can be installed on a new or existing toilet, the same as any regular toilet seat. A Washlet will typically have additional functions and features, depending on the model and price range.

How does a Washlet work?

It is activated by pressing a button, and in turn a wand will extends from the seat to cleanse you with a stream of gentle, aerated warm water. After cleansing, the wand retracts back under the seat. All installations require a 110VAC GFI outlet.

What are the features?

Each Washlet has different features and price points. Refer to the Innovative Washlet section to choose the model right for you.

Will a Washlet fit my toilet?

Washlets fit most standard close coupled and one piece toilets. Your dealer can provide you with a fitting template to see if the Washlet fits your particular toilet, or you can download our Washlet fitting charts online.

What is needed for installation?

Although you can install a Washlet by yourself, we recommend you use a licensed plumber. Each Washlet comes complete with all necessary installation hardware. Remember that you will need to provide a 110VAC GFI outlet near the toilet.

Why Toto thinks a Washlet is better than a bidet

Toto offers several Washlet products that have more functionality than a bidet. If you are a bidet user, you might appreciate these points:

1.The concept behind a bidet is excellent; washing with water provides better hygiene than using just toilet paper. But bidets represent antiquated technology, like a horse drawn carriage. Today, we no longer need the horse to pull us, because our carriages are powered by engines.

2.Washlets replace the need for a separate bidet fixture, reducing space used in your bathroom.

3.Washlets generally costs less to install than the installation of a bidet fixture.

4.Washlets are more convenient to use than bidets.

  • You do not have to hop, with your pants/pantyhose around your ankles, from the toilet to the bidet. Washlets are mounted on toilets just like a toilet seat.

  • You do not have to sit facing the wall like you do on a bidet, on Washlets you face forward.

  • You do not have to turn on, wait and adjust water temperature; Washlets always have on demand heated water.

  • You do not have to sit or squat over a cold bidet rim, Washlets have comfortable, ergonomic seats, some with optional warm seat features.

  • Some Washlets have convenient remote control for easy use. These can be wall-mounted beside you, and offer on-off and water pressure adjustments.
